Do you have a book in you, longing to get out? This workshop will address as many of the issues that authors face as we can fit into our time together. From idea conception through revision, editing, publication, promotion and platform building, join The Mercenary Writer to get your book into the world. Explore your options for traditional or self-publishing, and begin to build your network of readers.

Best Practices for Freelance Creatives

The central focus of this Workshop involves the nitty-gritty, nuts-and-bolts work of establishing and maintaining a successful freelance writing, editing or design career. Participants establish a flourishing freelance practice as they work to achieve specific, measurable goals over time.

Build a Blog and Social Network

Build your blog, from start to regular publication and promotion. Learn about best practices in blogging, why and how to have an editor for your blog, how to use an editorial calendar to schedule posts for the best time of year, create guidelines for guest contributors, identify sources for supporting images, and promote the blog to your target audience.

Creative Productivity

Are you a writer, artist, or performer who wants to overcome creative blocks and dissatisfaction, and don't know what to do next? We can help you address the pressing concerns that stop you from a fulfilling creative practice. The central focus of this Workshop involves the work of establishing and maintaining a productive and fulfilling creativity practice. Participants establish a supportive community as they work to achieve specific, measurable goals over time.

Write It Out: The Journal as a Tool for Personal Growth and Lasting Change

The central focus of this Workshop involves the Big Questions in our lives. We employ kinesthetic, sensory, and other methods in combination to access multiple sources of creativity and self-knowledge. We develop habits of observation, reflection, meditation, movement, and playfully creating artwork in our process of inquiry. We ultimately meet our own wisdom and develop habits to access it more often and more deeply. Participants establish a journal-writing practice that gently holds the writer accountable for achieving specific, measurable goals over time. Writers establish a comfortable continuity in the practice of journal-writing in an ongoing Journal-Writing Group, and take time to assess progress.

Note: While the curriculum for each workshop does have important themes and processes that naturally lead from one session to another, none of the Workshops require previous participation in any other session. There is no essential chronological order to our system. We aim to meet and provide support for our participants, wherever they are in the process. Each writer brings his or her particular expertise and experience to bear on the practice at hand. We honor and respect that you are the expert at living and writing your own life, and do not presume to force your practice into our timeline. If what we offer speaks to you, come and join us!
